Outpatient Consultations
The Specialist Network does not provide bulk-billed services or procedures, except for patients that can be billed under the Department of Veteran Affairs. Patients will be informed of the out-of-pocket fees upon booking a consultation. Most patients will be eligible for a Medicare Rebate for outpatient consultations. Should patients have any further questions regarding outpatient consultations, you can contact our friendly receptionists on (07) 5600 4977.
Procedures and Inpatient Consultations
The Specialist Network will bill health funds directly for your procedure or emergency consultation. To limit the out-of-pocket costs to patients, all surgeons at the Specialist Network are registered as known GAP providers. Procedures or emergency consultations in hospital will incur a non-rebatable, out-of-pocket expense; also known as a GAP. Patients should note that private health insurance is for hospital fees, not medical fees, and therefore cannot be used to claim the GAP payment. You will be notified of the out-of-pocket GAP fee at the time of scheduling your elective procedure.
Fees for anaesthesia, pathology, radiology or any other service provider required while you are in hospital are separate and are not controlled by the Specialist Network.
Hospital fees are rebatable through your health fund. You are advised to check what cover you have and any excess you may need to pay on admission to your health fund prior to admission. Patients are encouraged to check their coverage before confirming their procedure.
Uninsured patients will be provided with a quote for the procedure/consultation prior to any procedure or operation. This is payable to the Specialist Network prior to admission. Uninsured patients will also incur hospital expenses to cover accomodation, theatre costs and consumables. Our practice can obtain a quote from the hospital on your behalf; however this amount is payable on admission directly to the hospital. These fees are seperate to the fees charged by the Specialist Network and are wholly determined by the hospital. The Specialist Network is unable to collect fees for the hospital, and vice versa.
